I purchased this mouse to replace another that died. I researched it for a couple of days: my requirement was to have a wireless mouse with a reliable operating distance of at least 10 feet. I also wanted a large, standard size mouse. I chose the Logitech M555b because it is Bluetooth. I did not know the size at the time of purchase. It is a "medium size" mouse...really too small for my taste.
I installed the software. It turns out that this step is not needed if you use the defaults.
I discovered that the mouse disconnected after an hour of inactivity. I had to use another mouse to rediscover it and reconnect it. No amount of local mouse stuff like on-off, connect button, battery removal would reconnect this thing. It was DEAD.
After a week, I tried the Logitech site and upon entering my product number, M555b, from the bottom of the mouse, the site informed me the product did not exist. I did not remove the cover and inspect the inside of the mouse, where another cryptic M.... model number resides. I called Logitech by phone and instantly got a person on line who was knowlegable and helpful.
First, I described my frustration with the web site on the model number and then on to the fact that Logitech does not, anywhere with their product descriptions describe the size of the mouse. It is implied only by application: laptop means small. Otherwise no info.
Next, I described my problem with disconnect. After the obligatory stuff, the tech told me to uninstall the Logitech software and reboot the machine. I did that, and the mouse came alive. He told me that if this did not fix the problem, they would take the product back and in his words "replace the mouse with another of standard size that has less complexity and has no know problems with disconnect".
I have used it this way for 2 days. No disconnect.
In the discussion with the tech, we agreed that the problem IS the Logitech software that allows you to customize operation and button function. This software gets in the way of the actual connection and shuts the mouse down.
If you take the defaults and DONT install the software, you might be happy with the M555b.
Logitech support is excellent and they can put up with a lot of abuse!
